Mixed Weather

Wednesday 8th to Friday 10th June 2016

The weather has been very changeable this last few days - red hot - cool - heavy rain.

I wanted to take Blazer to Rosscoff for two nights but then discovered the depth instrument is not working.
I tried to sort it but no success !!
It is quite an old bit of kit and has been a bit unreliable so - time to get a new one.

The basic system I want is British made and matches all my other instruments - ( NASA Clipper ).
The local chandler here quoted 280 Euros ( 221 Pounds ) that looked expensive - I called my regular supplier in Poole ( Pipplers ) and they quoted 160 Pounds delivered by courier to France !!
It should be here on Tuesday with luck.

We have had lots of walks with Penny including an afternoon collecting clams on the local beach.
Three days after the highest spring tides gave us masses of beach to forage on in hot sunshine.
We were first there and were warned not to collect clams on that beach - IT IS FORBIDDEN !!!

As were about to leave the beach a group of locals turned up and started digging - I tried to ask if it was OK to collect clams there and they just said that the minimum size is 4 centimetres and then its OK.
We carried on - slowly collecting about 20 at the right size.
Boiled for 20 minutes - cooled - shelled and washed to get rid of the sand - then vinegar + salt and pepper - lovely.

Friday - I spotted two new boats on the visitors pontoon with British ensigns !!
Two Westerly's !!!
I invited both of them for a cup of tea in the afternoon and we had a nice long chat in the cockpit.

They were at the end of a Westerly rally - they were -

Ian and Susan McKen in a Fulmar - Westerly Winner

Philip and Sally Loynes in a Vulcan - Senyol III

They planned to stay in Trebeurden for about 3 days and then move on to Tregeur Perhaps.

Friday evening - we put on our dancing shoes and headed for Le Benji's !!!
We managed to get a comfy settee at the side of the band - the place filled up solid !!
The evening was a celebration for Benji - three years in business.
We were given plates of hors d'oeuvres and clams with garlic butter - really good.
We danced until midnight - there were a few fireworks and great music - Beatles songs !!

Back at the marina - our neighbour Jean Piere had just arrived by car from Paris !!
I haven't seen him for over a year - we have a lot of catching up to do - lovely.

Mike - Jackie + Penny.
